USF DONS WINS CHAMPIONSHIP
The USF Dons won the WCC baseball championship in highly entertaining match on Sunday. Three USF pitchers combined to scatter eight hits, with Friday's starter, Kyle Zimmer, coming on in relief in the ninth inning for his first save of the season. The teams were tied for the conference lead following Gonzaga's 7-5 victory Saturday.
"I'm proud of these guys and the way they played on the road," coach Nino Giarratano said. "This team deserved to win and go on to play in regionals. They will represent the WCC well."
Junior Nik Balog led off the second inning with a solo home run for the Dons, who went on to score twice more in the inning and never trailed.
